Been Farming Long???

So, Emma had the pleasure this past weekend of farming with Papa. Tim was away this whole weekend pheasant hunting, so Emma and I made our way to Durand. This made Emma very happy as she mentions Papa and Nana quite a bit and enjoys saying Hi to them on the phone.

Dad was finishing up combining corn this Saturday and Emma and I rode with him. She was a bit leary when she saw the combine coming her way, which I don't blame her, it is a lot bigger than her! But, she handled it like a trooper. As we were climbing up in the combine, she just hung on to my neck a bit tighter, but didn't cry at all. She was pointing all over, looking at the corn and enjoyed the ride. After awhile, when Dad only had about 2 rounds left, she thought that combining corn really couldn't be that hard, so she started to help him steer. She did a pretty good job too! That is good, I have always told Tim that our children (like that? children?? Wishful thinking...) are going to spend summers on the farm so they know what it is like to work. Emma is just getting ready.

Then the next day, we joined Papa at the big barn to take a look at the cows. While Emma has been there before, we never really captured it with pictures. She was a bit more scared of the cows. She always had to be held, especially when she saw the tractor coming in to feed the cows. She did really well when we were in the other barn looking at the calves. She stuck out her little hands to pet them and actually had one calf suck on her fingers. Which was bad, because then she wanted to suck on it too. Yuck.

All in all, it was a great weekend. Finally we had a little sun on Saturday so we could play outside! It was much needed.
