My New Mr. Fix It

Evan has taken on a new role in our house: Mr. Fix It. If there is anything that is broken, by-golly, he knows how to fix it.

He was watching Caillou on my I-Pod yesterday and of course, he cannot watch without pushing buttons. So for the third time, he hands it to me and I have to restart it. While I am doing that, he cocks his head at me and says with a questioning voice, "Broken?" And then more sure of himself, "Broken Mama." So, he scrambles off of the couch, runs to his little tool bench and grabs his beloved battery operated drill and scurries back to me. He dutifully presses the button and proceeds to "drill" my i-Pod. The cartoon finally starts and he nods at me assuredly. "Fixed Mama."

Then, later he is wrestling and playing with Tim - one of his favorite things to do. They are laughing and rolling around when Evan notices a tear in the knee of Tim's jeans. "Broken Daddy?" He puts his little finger in the hole and studies it. Then, he cocks his head and again and says. "Broken." Already knowing what needed to be done, he gets up off the floor and runs to find the precious drill again. He goes back to Tim and starts to drill his jeans (or his knee) and then his shirt, which also has a small hole in it. I think he runs back to his tool bench again at one point while fixing the clothes to grab a nail and a screw, but all-in-all he got it. Well, in his own way of course.

Just another day in the life of my little Mr. Fix It.
